Dr. Bok New Formula, Naturally Healthy for Your Cows!
Supporting Udder Health with Allicin

Udder health is a vital aspect of livestock farming. Various bacteria—such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli (E. coli), and Streptococcus uberis—can compromise udder health. Maintaining strong udder health is essential in the dairy industry, as healthier cows produce higher-quality milk and greater yields. Additionally, it improves animal welfare by reducing discomfort and stress.

Looking ahead, a new approach to udder health will be necessary. Scientific consensus indicates that antibiotic use must be reduced due to increasing bacterial resistance. Dr. Hans Bok of Allicin Animal Care International (AACI) has spent over 10 years developing an innovative solution: a product with strong antibacterial properties, the Dr. Bok Bolus! Dr. Bok’s products contain allicin, a proven antimicrobial compound. This antimicrobial action positively affects udder health by supporting the immune system in combatting harmful bacteria.

AACI initially introduced a liquid form of allicin before developing a bolus containing allicin as the active ingredient. Allicin—a naturally occurring compound in garlic—exhibits antibacterial, antiparasitic, antifungal, and antiviral properties.

Measures in the stable

Good hygiene, in the stable but especially during milking, can help prevent mastitis, as can properly functioning milking equipment, preventing draughts, providing sufficient space to move around and correct drying at the end of gestation.

Sawdust as a risk factor

Several bacteria have a greater negative impact on udder health. Such as the Mycobacterium bacteria that occurs in animals with Tuberculosis. The Klebsiella bacteria are also increasingly having a negative impact on udder health. This bacteria is usually introduced through the sawdust, especially through the bark remains. The bark is a risk factor because the trees have been dragged along the ground with the bark, in which Klebsiella may be present. Klebsiella can cause major problems. Klebsiella resembles E. coli, but is not sensitive to antibiotics. This makes it difficult to carry out proper control.
